Marshall Cavendish Education Signs Agreement with Brunei Ministry of Education

Marshall Cavendish Education and Brunei’s Ministry of Education’s (MoE) Curriculum Development Department (CDD) signed a Memorandum of Agreement at the International Convention Centre in Berakas, Brunei Darussalam on 3 March 2014. Called ‘Numeracy Initiative Project Enhancing Pedagogy of Primary and Secondary Mathematics Teachers’, the agreement helped strengthen our position as a leading provider of holistic learning solutions. Also, it reinforced our strong reputation in the field of education, both locally and overseas.

Signatories of the memorandum were CDD’s Acting Director, Hj Zulkifli Hj Muhd Yusuf, and Lee Fei Chen, Head of Publishing for Times Publishing Group. The ceremony’s witness was Brunei’s Minister of Education, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Hj Abu Bakar Hj Apong.

In the project, Marshall Cavendish shall conduct efficacy studies for over 500 teachers and 1,000 students in Brunei. This shall assess the level of competency of teachers, and the content knowledge of students from 2014 to 2017. In addition, new instructional materials for Primary 1 to 6 shall be co-published with Brunei’s MoE, and will be specifically designed for schools across the country. Specialised professional development workshops will also be conducted over the course of three years to update teachers’ pedagogy, which shall help ensure effective delivery of the syllabus to students.

During the event, Marshall Cavendish Institute Principal Dr Yeap Ban Har gave a talk entitled “Success Factors in Improving Achievement and Attitude in Mathematics”. This was followed by the Institute’s Assistant General Manager Lee Knight’s delivery of the “Pre-Efficacy Study Finding”, which introduced our professional development team’s role in the collaboration, and kick-started the project.
